Chess Opening Theory is growing every day. To follow the newest developments in your favorite openings is a time consuming task. You need to analyze the latest games and see where maybe some novelties were shown. Besides that you need to check how your opponents are playing against your favourite opening lines and you need also to check current theory in order to find some improvements yourself.
The task of working with your opening repertoire includes:
- Identify the current status of the opening theory in your line
- Understand the ideas behind the opening system which you want to play
- Follow the latest games in which your opening lines were played and analyze them
- Analyze yourself withe the help of chess engines the current opening theory and search for errors and improvements
- Play training games (using the typical or critical positions of your opening line) against these engines and get a feeling of how to handle the resulting positions

The French Defence (1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5) is an aggressive black defence system which not only is searching for equality, but also trying to win with the black pieces in unbalanced positions.
