Chess Theory

Chess Theory is the result of the scientific examination of the different phases of a chess game. Normally authors use games from past tournaments and matches and analyze them to get an evaluation of a specific opening line or endgame type. Chess Theory is constantly changing, as because of the complexity of the game these evaluations are often improved or there are new lines more fashionable.

We present on Chessfriend.com our view of modern chess theory about the French Defence. We try to discuss the French Defence within all parts of chess theory.

  • Chess Opening Theory
The French Defence is discussed in detail, all lines from ECO code C00 to C19.
But this not just another enzyclopedia. We go much deeper, explaining plans, history, new and forgotten ideas and annotated example games of each line.

  • Chess Strategy
We disucss here the pawn formations of the French Defence and the resulting plans.

  • Chess Tactics
200 tactical positions, King attacks, exchange sacrifices from French Defence positions

  • Chess Endgame
Endgames with opposite colour bishops and Knigh vs Bishop endgames

The idea of each section is to provide material for players who want to improve their results. The theory will be also linked to our annotated games in order to categorize these games and show example from practical play.
