Grossguth,C - Fischer,Robert James

[B92]

USA-ch Juniors Philadelphia, July 1956

Bobby Fischer was 13 years old when he played this game. He is already using the Najdorf Sicilian (5.-a6), his main defence against 1.e4 during his
whole career.

About the opponent I don't know much. He played like about ELO 2100 this game.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6

One of the first games where Bobby Fischer uses the Sicilian Najdorf

6.Be2 e5 7.Nb3 Be7 8.Be3 0-0 9.Qd2 b5 10.f3 Be6! 11.g4?!

White attacks on the king side, ignoring the possiblity of 11...d5 !
That's an error.

[better was 11.Nd5!? ] 11...d5!

Grossguth-Fischer 1956

the classical centre counter attack. White has imediate problems with his position in the centre.

12.g5 d4 13.gxf6 Bxf6!-/+ 14.0-0-0 dxe3 15.Qxd8

[15.Qxe3? Bg5 16.Rxd8 Bxe3+ 17.Rd2 Nc6-+ ]

15...Rxd8 16.Nc5?!

[16.Nd5!? might be a possibility to hold the position ; 16.Rxd8+ Bxd8 17.Nc5 Nc6 18.Nxe6 fxe6 19.Bd3 Bg5-/+ ]

16...Nc6!

Black is not scared of the exchange of the white knight for his bishop. The pawn on e6 will deny White using the d5 square and
therefore the exchange is in Black's favour.

Grossguth-Fischer 1956

17.Nxe6 fxe6 18.Rhf1?

[18.a3!? White should prevent b5-b4 and secure his knight; 18.Rhg1 b4 (18...Nd4!? 19.Rg2 Rac8-+ )
19.Na4 (19.Rxd8+!? Rxd8 20.Nd1 Nd4-+ ) 19...Nd4 20.Rg2 which is still better for Black, but much more difficult to win]

18...b4 19.Na4 Nd4!-+

Black has full control

20.Rxd4 Rxd4! 21.Bd3?!

[21.Nb6!? Rad8 22.Nc4 Bg5 23.Kb1 (23.Nxe5? Rd2 ) 23...Rc8 24.b3 Rcxc4!
25.bxc4 (25.Bxc4 Rxc4 26.bxc4 Bh4-+ ) 25...Rd2-+ ]

21...Rad8 22.Kd1 Bg5 23.Ke2 Bf4 24.h3 Rc8 25.Rd1 Rc6 26.b3 Kf7 27.h4

White has no usefull moves

27...Kf6 28.h5 a5 29.Nb2 Rxd3!

Black is winning decesive material. An impressive game by the young Bobby Fischer

Grossguth-Fischer 1956

[29...Rxd3! 30.Kxd3 (30.Rxd3 Rxc2+-+ ; 30.Nxd3 Rxc2+ 31.Ke1 Bg3+-+ ; 30.cxd3 Rc2+ ) 30...Rc3+ 31.Ke2 Rxc2+-+ ] 0-1
